Jesus had just been baptized by John the Baptist in the river of Jordan and the bible states it was immediately following this the Spirit led him into the wilderness. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and afterward was greatly hungered (Luke 4:1-2). Arriving at the place called the Mt. of Temptation, the devil tempted him there. As we review these temptations, remember this word (I Cor. 10:13). “There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man …..”.
Temptation #1 – “if thou be the Son of God” Lk. 4:3 – Have you ever questioned your salvation? doubted your faith? confused with religions? Here are a few scriptures to remind you who you are as a child of God. Jn. 1:12; Rom. 8:15; 1 Jn. 3:1; I Jn. 5:1
Temptation #2 – “command this stone that it be made bread” Lk. 4:3. The lust of the flesh is familiar to us all, 1 Jn. 2:16. A starving hunger has an insatiable appetite and will consume most anything to satisfy itself. Control your appetite and guard your consumption.
Temptation #3 – “the devil, taking him up into a high mountain, showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time” Lk.4 :5. The lust of the eyes can fill the whole body with emotional desires in a moment of time. Mt. 6:22-23 “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body is full of light….” What are we looking at?
Temptation #4 – “from the highest pinnacle of the temple in Jerusalem, if thou be the Son of God, cast yourself down form here. For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee…”, Lk 4:9-11. The pride of life was our Lord’s final temptation and the devil departed from him for a season. “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall”, Pr. 16:18. Sin (pride) will take you where you don’t want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay. Quote by Ravi Zaccharias.
In all the temptations our Lord faced, and He conquered them all. He had only one answer with biblical quotes for each of them; “IT IS WRITTEN”! Or someone might even say, thus saith, The LORD!
So, whatever your temptations in life, the Lord has proven to us all it can be overcome by our faith in God and power of His Living Word. I know it’s true! In fact, it’s written
